Ernest Emerson: CQC-7 Right Hand Grind - Green Canvas Micarta - Satin Blade & Hardware w/ Steel Flame Koi
A Brief History
During the late 1980's and early 1990's I was the lead Hand-to-Hand Combat instructor for a company named Global Studies Group International (GSGI) run by a group of U.S. Navy SEALs who were former members of SEAL Team Six. By that time, my knives had become well known among the Naval Special Warfare Community, Army Special Forces (Delta), The British SAS and various other Government agencies. In fact, the founder of the German GSG9 and also the 2nd in command of Scotland Yard carried Emerson Custom Knives. This knife, the CQC-6, became so sought after in the Special Operations community that owning an Emerson CQC-6 became a symbol of a "Made Man" in the SPEC OPS community and carried tremendous bragging rights among the operators that carried them. As a result I ended up working directly with a number of special groups and sub groups within the Naval Special Warfare Community, Army Special Forces and U.S. Government DoD branches along with several international and foreign agencies. My work included specialized combat weapons and of course hand-to-hand combat and edged weapons training. Benchmade Knives approached me to make a production version of the knife that I was building for all these world's elite operators, the Emerson CQC-6, the true father of the modern tactical folding knife. I told them no, but I had another design, the CQC-7 and that knife went on to become the most popular and sought after tactical folder of all time. In fact it created the genre of the Tactical Folding Knife. It was at the time the #1
It's been almost 25 years since Ernest Emerson began producing production knives for the masses. For almost that length of time many collectors and end line users have always asked why doesn't Emerson produce his knives with a Right Hand Grind which they believe to be the correct grind for knives with Chisel Grinds. Well we don't know what is right or what is wrong we just know that we wanted to make our and our collector's dreams a reality by coming out with this variation of a truly iconic knife.

CQC-7 right hand grind green canvas micarta satin blade

Posted by William Yester on 8th Jul 2019

This is the second special Emerson run that TE has done, the first being the Persian. This drop is the iconic CQC-7 , arguably the most famous tactical folder of all time. The thing that makes this CQC-7 so special is that the chisel-ground blade is ground so that a right-handed user can cut correctly with it. Over the years, one complaint users had with the 7 was that the blade needed to be ground the same way a Japanese kitchen knife was ground, so that the flat side of the blade could be placed up against the right-handed user’s left fingers. Their prayers have been answered with this special run! To add even more desirability to this model, A.J. Asked Ernie to equip this folder with beautiful green canvas Micarta scales and a unique Steel Flame Koi clip. Those of us that were fortunate enough to score one of these beauties know that we own a very special knife indeed. The fit and finish of these folders are nothing short of perfect. The action and lock-up is also one of the best of any folder in my collection. I can’t wait to see what A.J. and Ernie cook up next!
