Ecos Knives was started by Jason Aube, a self-taught Michigan knifemaker who began making knives at age 14 in 1991 — giving him over 34 years of experience at the time of this writing. Jason originally focused on stainless steel blades with immaculate finishes (hand-rubbed satin, mirror polish, etc.), but found that while those finishes look stunning, they don't hold up well to real-world use. That led him to found Ecos: custom knives with user-grade finishes at honest prices. A big part of why we carry Ecos knives is to give people a genuinely accessible entry point into full custom — a way to make the jump from production to custom without the sticker shock.
