James Helm is History Channel's 2017 Forged in Fire (Episode 3) Champion for the Katzbalger (Renaissance Arming Sword notable for its sturdy build and a distinctive s-shaped or figure-8 shaped guard).
They are machined from oversized 1/4” 80CrV2 steel, with cerakote ceramic coating, marine epoxy-impregnated hemp cord wraps, and Boltaron sheaths. There are a small number with sharpened edges, a one-time experiment that will likely not be revisited.
