In 1993, Timberline Knives teamed up with legendary custom knifemaker Ernest Emerson—marking his first collaboration with a knife manufacturer—to produce their take on his iconic SPECWAR model. This knife features a one-sided, chisel-ground tanto blade nearly ¼ inch thick, paired with a fiberglass-reinforced nylon handle molded around a near-full tang for strength and durability. The sheath was designed by Vaughn Neeley of Timberline. Originally crafted as a custom piece for Naval Special Warfare Group One, this factory version was entered into the 1995 Navy SEAL trials. While not adopted by the Navy, the Emerson-Neeley SPECWAR won Blade Magazine’s 1995 American Made Knife of the Year Award and was showcased at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York City from May 24 to August 15, 1995.
